Summary

We partnered with The Pace Centre to engineer a Low-Cost Vocal Output Communication Aid (VOCA) for young children and toddlers with Cerebral Palsy, utilizing Arduino as the primary microcontroller. I was involved as the lead of the Electrical and Software team, where we were needed to design, prototype and developed the device itself. We opted to use Arduino as the main computing unit due to easy prototyping which allows us to be more flexible in the design. Due to this, I self-learned C++ to configure the built device to match the requirement of the project. At the end, we managed to exceed the client expectations by building a fully functional prototype within 6 months, while surpassing existing products in the market at a lower price.
