Summary
Koffing is a web application designed to provide dynamic logging of asthma sufferers, up-to-date information about air quality and pollution, and further details such as what to do in emergencies. This was created as a project task for the Software Engineering for Bioengineers 2023-2024 module.
We decided to focus on creating a personalised user input of the type of asthma inhaler used, the type of inhaler, and the dosage taken. This then can be easily added in the future using a “Quick Puff” button to avoid having to manually input each dose. The logbook will display the user’s most recent doses logged and will advise them either if they are using their inhaler too often, or if they should replace their inhaler. An air pollution heatmap within our website allows the user to input a location of their choice. The website provides an air quality index shown of that area scaling from a score of 0 to 100, any recommendations for an asthma sufferer travelling/living there, and the major pollutants in the area. Furthermore, a historical graph of the air pollution index is shown to the user to allow them to have a better understanding of the general trends in the area. Within the home page, a list of steps to take during an emergency are outlined.
